Local Governments Interested in Joining the State Health Plan

Legislation allows local government units to participate in the State Health Plan. Participation is limited to local governments for which enrollment of full-time employees and dependents does not exceed 1,000 members. Retirees of local governments are not eligible for enrollment.

Total local government unit membership in the State Health Plan is has been increased to 16,000. A local government’s participation in the Plan is subject to that local government passing a valid resolution expressing its intent to participate, submitting a notice of partcipation, and entering a memorandum of understanding with the State Health Plan.

At this time, the Plan can no longer accept application materials from local units of government. We have received commitments to date that will increase local membership in the Plan to the statutory enrollment cap on July 1, 2017.
