April 28 is Drug Take Back Day

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, sponsored by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, provides an opportunity for all Americans to help prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths by safely and responsibly disposing of drugs. This year, Take Back Day is Saturday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue. According to the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.4 million Americans abused controlled prescription drugs. A majority of abused prescription drugs came from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.

Take Back Day events offer an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths. Locations are open to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs.

It’s easy to participate. Just locate a collection site near you, and take your unused prescription drugs there on April 28 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Please note: Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) will also support a series of Take Back Day events to encourage people to bring unused prescription medication (particularly opioids) to secure drop-off sites for proper disposal. Blue Cross NC will partner with Mutual Drug drugstores and local law enforcement. Local times may vary. The sites are:
