According to the American Heart Association, 34% of adults have Metabolic Syndrome. Metabolic Syndrome​ describes a group of risk factors that when combined together, greatly increase the risk for heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and other health problems.

Find out if you are at risk...

A person has Metabolic Syndrome when he or she has 3 or more of the following risk factors (if you are taking medication to treat one of the listed conditions, you are considered to have that risk factor):

  •     High fasting blood glucose (sugar)
  •     Low HDL cholesterol level  (the "good" cholesterol)
  •     A large waistline: greater than 35 inches for women, 40 inches for men
  •     High triglyceride level
  •     High blood pressure

How do you prevent it?

You can prevent metabolic syndrome by being physically active, eating a heart-healthy diet, and maintaining a healthy weight and waist size​. Read more.
