Flu Shot Information for HBRs

What’s True About the Flu Program

Host a flu shot clinic this fall and help keep your employees healthy and productive during the flu season. Please note: the 2019 program has ended, and the 2020 program will begin in late summer.

Flu season can significantly impact your school or agency costs through increased absenteeism and decreased employee productivity. But employees who get a flu shot are less likely to take time off because they are sick. And getting a flu shot at a worksite clinic saves employees – and you – time and money while supporting good health.

Maxim Healthcare Services, an independent flu clinic provider, will send a team of nurses to your worksite to provide flu shots to employees covered by the State Health Plan and, if you'd like, their family members. The process will be the same as the 2018 program. All participants must be 4 years of age or older. Members simply have to present a valid State Health Plan member ID card and photo ID to receive a shot.

There is a 25-shot minimum required for each clinic. Agencies will be charged $25 per shot for any shots below the minimum.

From there, everything is handled. Maxim submits a claim for the shot to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC), the State Health Plan’s third-party administrator, and the claim is processed according to the member's benefit plan. The member is responsible for any applicable copayment, coinsurance or deductible that may apply to the claim.

Maxim will be providing the quadrivalent vaccine, designed to protect against four different flu viruses.
