Tobacco claims the lives of approximately 14,200 North Carolinians each year. The third Thursday of every November marks the Great American Smokeout. This is a day nationally designated to encourage tobacco users to make a plan to quit or quit that day.  By quitting, even for one day, smokers take an important step toward better health. Subscribers who completed the tobacco attestation during 2019 Open Enrollment and said they were willing to participate in a tobacco cessation counseling session must visit a CVS MinuteClinic for a least one tobacco cessation counseling session before January 31, 2019, or risk losing the premium credit.

The voucher is good for two tobacco cessation counseling sessions, but only one visit is required to keep the premium credit.

Some members under the UnitedHealthcare (UHC) Group Medicare Advantage plans have received letters from hospitals stating they may no longer be in-network with UHC. While it is true that UHC may be out-of-network for these hospitals, State Health Plan members are still able to receive services from them and their employed physicians at no additional cost.

UPDATE: CVS Caremark is the State Health Plan’s Pharmacy Benefit Manager. State Health Plan members should be aware that Walmart will NOT be leaving the CVS Caremark Pharmacy Network. CVS and Walmart were able to come to mutually agreeable contract terms and Walmart will remain in the CVS Caremark Pharmacy Network.
