North Carolina State Health Plan Appoints Medical Director

Raleigh, N. C. (Feb. 12, 2008) ­ The North Carolina State Health Plan is pleased to announce the appointment of Bruce  E. Norman, MD, as its medical director and executive team member, effective February 11, 2008.  

 “Dr. Norman brings over 25 years of clinical practice and executive health care management experience and is an excellent addition to the State Health Plan,” said George C. Stokes, executive administrator. “I am confident that his contributions will be invaluable as we continue to provide high-quality, affordable health care for our members, and maintain our commitment of cost effectiveness to the taxpayers of North Carolina.”

Dr. Norman is returning to North Carolina after six years in Cleveland, Ohio, where he served as associate medical director for Ohio Permanente Medical Group, overseeing network operations for the provider delivery system and clinical hospital operations.

Before joining the Ohio Permanente Medical Group, he held various leadership positions in North Carolina including: medical director of the National Women’s Health Organization; chief medical officer of Scott Medical Group, LLC; CEO and president of Carolina Premier Medical Group; and executive medical director of the Carolina Permanente Medical Group.

A graduate of Queen’s University in Canada, with a major in chemical engineering, Dr. Norman received his medical degree from Queen’s University School of Medicine. He completed his residency and internship in obstetrics and gynecology at McGill University.

Dr. Norman is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Fellowship Royal College of Surgeons in Canada. He is a member of the Ontario Medical Association.
