Ways to Save

Save with Generics

You can save money by asking your provider if there is a generic option for a brand name medication you have been prescribed. Many popular brand name drugs now have generic equivalents that provide the same benefit as their brand name counterparts, but have a Tier 1 copay, instead of Tier 2 or Tier 3.

Generic drugs:

  • are approved by the Food and Drug Administration as safe and effective alternatives to brand name drugs
  • contain the same active ingredients and same amounts as their brand name drug equivalents
  • are usually less expensive

To find out if the medication you're taking has a generic equivalent, go to My Rx Choices.

If you take cholesterol-lowering medications, you can save even more on your generics. Click here for more information.

Generic drugs are considered preferred drugs and only require a Tier 1 copayment for a 30-day supply, so generic drugs are the least costly of the drugs provided under the prescription drug benefit.

**Once a generic is available for a brand name medication, and you choose the brand product, you will be responsible for a Tier 1 copay plus the difference in the Plan's cost between the brand and generic medication.**
