H1N1 Flu Shot Information for Health Benefit Representatives

The State of North Carolina has lifted priority group restrictions for all NC counties. Since restrictions for the H1N1 vaccine no longer apply, you may want to consider having a worksite H1N1 flu shot clinic.  BCBS of North Carolina, in cooperation with the State Health Plan, is accepting requests for on-site H1N1 Flu Shot clinics.

Maxim Healthcare Services, a vendor of BCBSNC, will send a team of nurses to worksites and provide H1N1 flu shots to employees, retirees and dependents who are covered by the State Health Plan and/or BCBSNC.  Children between the ages of 10 and 17 must have parents present to receive a flu shot.  Children under 10 must go to a physician to get both doses of the H1N1 flu vaccine.  Maxim will charge $15 per H1N1 flu vaccine for family members and employees who are not covered by the State Health Plan and/or BCBSNC. If less than 25 H1N1 flu shots are given, Maxim will charge $12.00 for each shot that falls short of the minimum – no exceptions.

Maxim can now accommodate all H1N1 clinic requests so please submit your clinic request as soon as possible so that they may route vaccines to your area quickly.

Please Note:  Any H1N1 flu clinics not arranged between BCBSNC and their flu shot vendor Maxim, or H1N1 flu shots not obtained through a physician's office, Minute Clinic or in-network pharmacist may result in a cost to the member.

Employees and dependent family members on the State Health Plan who do not have access to a worksite clinic or do not wish to wait for a worksite H1N1 vaccination clinic can visit one of the participating providers/places of service in North Carolina listed below to receive the covered H1N1 flu shot.

PLEASE NOTE: Outside of NC, there are no out of state pharmacists in-network.

The flu shot will be free to the member IF they go to one of the following locations/ providers for a flu shot. If other services are performed at the same time a flu shot is administered (i.e. physical exam), a copayment will apply.

  • In-network Primary Care Physician’s office (nurse visits only)
  • In-network CVS MinuteClinic
  • In-network immunizing pharmacist (an individual pharmacist in the BCBSNC network). To find a participating pharmacist go to Find a Doctor and search for a specialty of "Pharmacist (Flu and Other Limited Injections)"
  • All Kerr Drug locations in NC have pharmacists that are participating in the BCBSNC network.
  • In-Network Health Departments. Click here to view the list.
