Mental Health

The indemnity plan covers a variety of mental health treatments, including the following:
  • outpatient care, such as visits to psychologists, psychiatrists and other mental health therapists
  • inpatient care, such as hospitalization for mental illness or chemical dependency
  • medications prescribed by your doctor
To learn more details about what types of treatment are covered, consult your Benefits Booklet (PDF, 2.0 MB).

Before seeking help with certain mental health or chemical dependency treatment, you must obtain pre-certification from the State Health Plan. To do so, contact a Mental Health Case Manager by calling 800-367-6143.

To locate a mental health provider near you, use the BCBSNC Online Provider Search.

In addition to providing coverage for mental health treatment, the State Health Plan provides resources for helping plan members who need help facing life’s challenges. To assist in this effort, the Plan uses ValueOptions as its mental health case manager. On ValueOptions’ Web site, you can find a variety of resources to assist you with mental health issues, such as stress, health and children’s matters. Visit the ValueOptions' Achieve Solutions Web site.
