Inside North Carolina
The Indemnity Plan's local provider network is managed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC). To locate a doctor or hospital near you, use the BCBSNC Indemnity Plan Provider Search.If you visit a non-participating provider you will be responsible for paying any amount above the State Health Plan’s usual, customary and reasonable allowance.
Outside North Carolina
The Indemnity Plan’s out-of-state provider network is managed by Private Healthcare Systems. To locate a provider outside of North Carolina, use the PHCS online Provider Search (under "Choose Your Network," be sure to select "Healthy Directions").If you receive care from a participating provider in the PHCS Healthy Directions network, you will not be held responsible for amounts above the allowance for covered services. Plan members will be responsible for any deductibles, copays, coinsurance and non-covered charges. Mental Health and Chemical Dependency Benefits/Visits do not apply to the PHCS network.
Out of the Country
If you need to obtain health care outside of the United States, just go to a local provider and submit your claims (PDF, 111 KB) later for reimbursement.The information contained in these Frequently Asked Questions does not include all the benefits or everything you need to know about the State Health Plan.
