The Board of Trustees of the State Health Plan consists of nine members. Three members are appointed by the Governor. Of the members appointed by the Governor, one must be either: an employee of a State department, agency, or institution; a teacher employed by a North Carolina public school system; a retired employee of a State department, agency, or institution; or a retired teacher from a North Carolina public school system. Additionally, three members are appointed by the General Assembly upon the recommendation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives and three members are appointed by the General Assembly upon the recommendation of the President Pro Tempore of the Senate. No member of the Board of Trustees may serve more than three consecutive two year terms.
